At every event on the Season of Champions schedule, junior curlers, between the ages of 12-16, can apply to be a Junior Star. All it takes is to answer, in 50 words or less “Why you would like to be a Ford World Women’s Curling Championship Junior Star?” Both Auburn Thienes, from Christ the King School, and her brother Logan were chosen to be with Team Scotland on Saturday, March 19 for the 7 pm draw. Each draw, one team is specially recognized and their national anthem is played. A total of 24 junior stars were chosen, 2 for each of the 12 teams.
Selected applicants become honorary members of one of the teams competing in the championship and receive:
A commemorative 2016 FWWCC Junior Stars jacket;
- A commemorative 2016 FWWCC Junior Stars jacket;
- Tickets for two guests to attend the draw the Junior Star is featured in;
- A meet and greet to take photos with their team;
- A tour of the TSN mobile production truck. (They actually toured the World Curling TV production truck instead. TSN only broadcasts Canada’s games and they weren’t playing that draw.) They also received a TSN gift pack.
But the best part is they have the chance to be at ice level during the team practice and march out with their team during the pre-game ceremony! Way to go Auburn!!
